The YAK (The Youth of Alaska) – Palmer
Like never before, the road to adulthood is littered with destructive pits. Pits like drugs, alcohol, pornography, sexual experimentation, depression, violence, self-harm, bullying, eating disorders and more. These pits are hurting our youth and leaving scars that they will carry for the rest of their lives.
As dependent youth become independent adults The YAK is at the crossroads of this journey, encouraging the teens to take a healthy path to adulthood.
The YAK, which stands for The Youth of Alaska, is a faith based non-profit in Palmer, AK that is dedicated to serving the youth of our community youth by providing them with a safe, welcoming, fun place to hang out and interact with caring staff and other teens. The YAK is located near the city skate park in the historic Hartley Motors building, situated at the crossroads of three local schools.
The entire ministry of The YAK can be summed up in one word… “grace”. Through prayer and a dependence on Christ, they serve, love, counsel and encourage the youth of AK. Planting seeds of truth in their hearts and praying for the day when the truth is united with faith and life begins!
Their vision is this: For the Glory of God and the good of all people, they want to see a reversal in the trends of broken dysfunctional marriages, with healthy youth as an outcome.
Their belief is that:
Healthy individuals make healthy marriages…
Healthy marriages cultivate healthy families…
Families make communities…
Communities make nations…
Nations make a world.
The YAK is doing their part in the Mat-Su Valley to affect the whole of humanity by investing in the youth of AK, seeing them grow to be healthy individuals with healthy God honoring marriages. They do this by prayer, and grace. Check their website at http://www.youth-ak.com/
